While other bands may get more attention from the underground art-rock community, Monterey CA natives Amphoteric are just as important in creating a new strain of music that draws heavily on atmospheric, progressive, art-rock and doom metal influences with desperate, yet melodic vocals.
Based in Monterey California, Amphoteric consists of vocalist/guitarist Hart Hancock, bassist Bryan Blair, and ex-Blue Tones drummer Craig Brown. While each band member brings with them their own unique personal styling to the music, the music of Amphoteric draws heavily on progressive rock, ambient atmospheric, doom metal, and hard rock. Some of the bands biggest musical influences are: Pink Floyd, Rush, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Anathema and Katatonia. This creates music can be brutal, yet posessing lush soundscapes at times.
